On January 24, 2024, the InnoCosme 2024 8th China International Cosmetics Technology Summit, jointly held by Shanghai Shangtu and GeHu Frontier Media, kicked off in Shanghai. The theme of this conference is "Biotechnology Leading Innovation, Market Insights Empowering Development", gathering cutting-edge trends in the industry and inviting experts and scholars to discuss and share the progress of new raw material development and technological innovation breakthroughs. The conference combines the analysis of synthetic biotechnology and its application prospects, integrates research on skin science mechanisms, and covers the latest industry policy and regulatory analysis, responding to current hot topics and providing assistance for the scientific communication of landing brands. The transdermal drug delivery research and development team of the National Nanodrug Engineering Center of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Professor Liu Wei, Chief Scientist of Baisikairui, were invited to participate in this conference together with the Baisikairui team, and gave a wonderful speech on "Transdermal Delivery Technology and Efficacy Skincare Products". Professor Liu introduced in his report that the development process of modern pharmaceutical formulations mainly includes oral sustained-release technology, injection long-acting sustained-release technology (polymer microspheres), and drug delivery technology (nanocarriers, delivery+sustained-release control). The goal of "targeted delivery, sustained release and controlled release" is precise drug delivery, including spatial precision (targeted delivery) and temporal precision (sustained release and controlled release). And transdermal drug delivery system or transdermal drug formulation refers to a type of drug delivery system or formulation that delivers drugs through the skin to the site of action for the treatment or prevention of diseases. The broad definition of transdermal drug delivery systems includes dermal drug delivery systems (DDDS) and transdermal drug delivery systems (TDDS). The former acts on the skin or subcutaneous tissue, also known as dermatological drug delivery systems or dermatological preparations, while the latter involves drugs being absorbed into the circulatory system through the skin to exert systemic therapeutic effects.
With the continuous development of nanocarrier technology, the advantages of this technology have gradually been recognized and acknowledged by domestic and foreign cosmetics companies, and widely applied in functional cosmetics products. The successful application of nanocarrier technology will bring about technological upgrades in the efficacy cosmetics industry, achieving a shift towards "precision skincare" and effectively improving the efficacy and safety of cosmetic products. Finally, Professor Liu also proposed in the report that the process of constructing functional ingredient nanocarriers based on the concept of "precision skincare" includes: precise anchoring of skin targets/functional pathways, precise detection of skin physiology including microecology, precise screening and scientific combination of functional ingredients, construction of suitable nanocarriers, and precise delivery of core functional ingredients.
